Senna

Cast

Nigel Mansell
Director
Asif Kapadia
Running Time
104 minutes

Documentary charting the astonishing Formula 1 career of the charismatic and controversial Brazilian racer, Ayrton Senna — also, tragically, the final decade of his life.[Empire]

Interesting and moving although not as good as some reviews I've seen. I would have probably given it 3 stars but the projection was interrupted three times by power cuts. The second time during his last crash, the film was rewound to play that part but by then the tone had been lost so much so I'll give no score.

September Comics

CBR has the new Dark Horse, DC, Marvel and Image solicitations for September.

This is the stuff I'm thinking about in addition to my regular pull list.

NEAR DEATH #1
story JAY FAERBER
art SIMONE GUGLIELMINI
cover TOMM COKER
SEPTEMBER 21
32 PAGES / FC / T+
$2.99
Markham is a professional killer who has a near death experience during a botched mission. Determined to avoid ever returning to the Hell he glimpsed, Markham dedicates himself to balancing the scales. He's going to save a life for every life he's taken. And he's taken a lot of lives...
A new ongoing crime series for fans of Criminal and the novels of Lee Child and Robert Crais.

Faerber has a good reputation but I've yet to get anything by him I think and the art looks reminiscent of Criminal which I love.

PIGS #1
story NATE COSBY & BEN McCOOL
art BRENO TEMURA
cover JOCK
SEPTEMBER 14
32 PAGES / FC / M
$2.99
ISSUE ONE: HELLO, CRUEL WORLD

NATE COSBY (MARVEL), BEN McCOOL (CHOKER, MEMOIR) and hotshot newcomer artist BRENO TEMURA present PIGS, an ongoing series set to join Image’s elite ranks. Terrorists have descended on America, assigned to destroy everything in their path…but why, and why now?

The preview at the USA Today site looks promising.

THE BIG LIE #1
story RICK VEITCH
art RICK VEITCH & GARY ERSKINE
cover THOMAS YEATES
SEPTEMBER 7
32 PAGES / FC / T+
$2.99
A lab tech travels back in time to the morning of Sept. 11, 2001 to try and get her husband out of the world trade center before it falls, but will the facts convince him before it's too late? A riveting tale of 9/11 by award winning master storyteller RICK VEITCH that exposes “The Big Lie!”

I really liked Brat Pack and I have other Veitch comics which I haven't got around to reading, this could of course be guano crazy.

...and now the craziness that is DC. Honestly I don't know what I'm getting partly it depends on Mail Order Comics and what reductions they give. I've thought of getting every #1 or giving up on the "big two" entirely and go with Dark Horse, Image and others where this stuff doesn't happen.

I enjoyed the whole thing but rather like the True Grit remake it seemed a pale imitation on the best of what had come before, although certainly better than X-Men 3 and Wolverine. It was a little too fast paced and abridged although I could follow what was happening having read some X-Men comics I'm not sure others would have such an easy job. A lot of deaths seemed to happen just off screen or the film cuts to a new scene just as a character was in the middle of expiring which seemed a weird choice but I guess allowed for a lower rating.
